Expressing concern over the reported beating-up of non-local students, mostly from Bihar, at National Institute of Technology in Manipur, LJP leader Chirag Paswan has sought Home Minister Rajnath Singh's intervention in the matter.
Paswan has cited media reports and enclosed a letter from a NIT student hailing from Bihar in his letter to Singh, according to a statement issued by the LJP leader today.
Mohammad Asad, a student, had written to the LJP MP, who is son of Cabinet Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, that non-local students on the campus were being "harassed physically and mentally" by the local students and the administration of the institute.
Noting that NIT comes under the purview of the HRD ministry, Paswan asked Singh to "look into the matter personally and do the needful".
Media reports had said the students were beaten-up by a group of "locals" and the administration then decided to "shift" them to a hostel which was more "unsafe".
