With investors across Odisha demanding action against the chit fund companies which duped them of crores of rupees, opposition BJP and Congress today respectively demanded judicial probe and CBI investigation into the matter.
"As one chief of an accused chit fund company has said that some ministers and MLAs are hand-in-glove with him to cheat people, the government must reveal their names and announce a judicial probe into the matter," BJP backed Independent MLA Pratap Sarangi told reporters at a media conference held at BJP state headquarters here.
Justifying his claim, Sarangi said the people of the state have rights to know which politician joined hands with the chit fund companies which looted and duped them.
"If Naveen Patnaik's government is transparent, it must allow a sitting High Court judge to probe the matter," Sarangi said.
Union Minister and senior Congress leader Srikant Jena also demanded a CBI probe into the matter as chit fund companies had their business in other states also. "If government is sincere to find truth, it should hand over the case to CBI," Jena said.
The ruling BJD vice-president and panchayati raj minister Kalpataru Das, however, rejected Jena's demand of CBI probe into the matter. "CBI's poor credibility is now open. We do not want to hand over the case to CBI and allow Congress leaders go scot free in the chit fund case," Das said.
