Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh has said that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should step down first in wake of growing child rape cases in the state.
The Congress leader was reacting to a query over demands of Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's resignation over the Delhi rape case involving a five-year-old.
"If that is the case, then Shivraj Singh Chouhan should step down first. There is no basis for demanding the resignation of Shinde in view of the rape in New Delhi," he told reporters here last evening on his arrival from the capital.
Expressing concern at the rising crime graph in Madhya Pradesh, Singh said that the Centre was more sensitive than the state government on issues like rape and taking effective steps to tackle it.
Attacking the ruling BJP government in MP, Singh said that Chouhan was trying to mislead the people of the state by trying to take credit for the Central schemes.
