Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will complete 11 years in office tomorrow, which the BJP has planned to celebrate through a number of programmes, including lighting 'diyas' in every house under the 62,926 polling booths across the state.
Describing Chouhan's 11 years in office as "11 years of service and welfare of the people", BJP state chief Nandkumar Singh Chauhan said, "The party will celebrate the occasion in a number of ways, including lighting 'diyas' (earthen lamps) in each and every house under the 62,926 polling booths in the state."
Besides organising 'Hitgrahi Sammelans' (beneficiaries' conferences) for a fortnight, the chief minister will be felicitated by elders and the common people at Subhash Chowk in Bhopal, he said.
"Under the able leadership of the chief minister, a large number of welfare schemes were implemented in the state for all the sections of the society, including the youth, women and girls," Nandkumar said.
Chouhan is currently serving his third term and is the only chief minister in the state's history to complete 11 years in office.
He took oath as chief minister for the first time on November 29, 2005 in place of Babulal Gaur amid turbulence in the BJP over former chief minister Uma Bharti's demand of restoration of chief ministership to her.
In the 2008 Assembly polls, the BJP under Chouhan won 143 out of 230 seats.
In 2013, the saffron party improved its tally to 165 seats amid speculations that the alleged muti-crore 'Vyapam' (admission-cum-recruitment) scam would dent its poll prospects. Congress was reduced to below 60 seats.
Chouhan took oath as the chief minister for the third time on December 14, 2013.
