Writer-producer Chris Morgan believes Universal's plan for horror cinematic universe failed to lift off because "it was trying to come together too quickly".

Dubbed as Dark Universe, the studio in 2017 had planned a cinematic world around its classic monster characters and roped in stars like Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise, Russell Crowe, Javier Bardem and Sofia Boutella for it.

However, the failure of Cruise-starrer "The Mummy" the same year, spilled water on the plans.

Talking to io9 about the failed attempt to start the franchise, Morgan said, "I don't (have) regrets or anything like that. I think it's just, you know, I think it probably was trying to come together too quickly, I would say."
