The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today said it's hopeful that India will improve its ranking and figure among the top 90 countries in the World Bank's 'Ease of Doing Business' report.
To give you a perspective, India ranked 142 out of 189 in the Ease of Doing Business Report of 2014. This year's report is due by October.
CII's Western Region Chairman Sanjay Kirloskar feels that there is a possibility of improvement in India's ranking "if the entire system moves towards it".
"The World Bank rated India in many categories. In some categories, we are good, while we are horrible in others. They also did a study on where our best Indian states stand, and we ranked 90 in that," said Kirloskar, who was in town to brief reporters about efforts made by CII for a better business environment.
"It shows that there is a possibility that India can also achieve a ranking of 90 if everyone works in that direction. There has to be a composite model where the entire system has to move together," said Kirloskar, who is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Kirloskar Brothers.
He said the central government is committed to creating an environment conducive to investors and facilitating higher capital inflows into the country.
CII has been holding discussions with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to push for reforms in easing norms to do business here.
"CII has also shared industry inputs with DIPP's expert committee on examining the possibility of replacing many prior permissions with pre-clearances. I hope that such initiatives will go a long way in ensuring India ranks higher up on the Ease of Doing Business index and becomes a desirable place to conduct business," said Kirloskar.
