City admin makes "audit" by locals on govt works "mandatory"

The new adviser to the Chandigarh (UT) Administrator today said the city's developmental works, including roads, parks, sanitation and sewerage, will be "audited" by the locals and will be "mandatory" for the officials to get a 'work certification' from them.
Vijay Kumar Dev, who assumed office two months back as adviser to Administrator in Union Territory of Chandigarh, said the certificate by the public representative on the work done will be an "independent audit" which will help in removing the shortcomings.
"If the public representative expressed his or her unhappiness over the work, the concerned government or Municipal Coporation officer will be held accountable and will have to remove the shortcomings," he said in his maiden 'meet the press' programme here.

The 1987-batch IAS officer said: "If any developmental work is done by the government agency or the Municipal Corporation, it will be mandatory to get the work certification from public representatives of the concerned areas in the city."
"I would create an ambience where we will deliver better public services," he said adding that in future senior officers of concerned departments would be held accountable for any discripency.
"In the next three to four months there will be zero tolerance towards concerned officers on handling developmental projects, including upgrading parks, roads, sanitation and sewerage systems," he said.
Dev said that Chandigarh, which is surrounded with Panchkula and Mohali, will see more interactions at Chief Secretaries and Deputy Commissioners level for the overall development of the 'Tri-city.
