Ahead of Republic Day, all municipal establishments such as schools, hospitals and offices have been asked by authorities to step up security measures, which includes use of CCTV cameras at vulnerable points.
The Delhi Police today issued advisories to all civic bodies to maintain a tight vigil during the period to avoid any untoward incident.
The instructions include strengthening and enhancing overall security around such buildings in general by deploying security personnel there.
The order has also asked the civic bodies to ensure proper lighting in all corridors and leave no dark places to prevent any activity by anti-social elements.
"CCTVs installed at vulnerable spots should be checked and must be in working condition," the copy of the order released by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation said.
All employees have been advised to wear prescribed uniform and carry identity cards, properly displaying their identification number.
A strict vigil must be maintained on staff of municipal establishments like schools and hospitals and also patients and their attendants, it said.
On opening of offices on holidays, a prior permission must be sought a day before from the authorities. All doors and the main gates must be locked by security guards and properly checked by caretaker concerned of the building, it said.
