There was no report of any injury to any person in the clash, the police said.
A van loaded with animal skin was intercepted by the local police on a tip off, around 2 pm.
The recovery was made on the tip given by some Hindu outfit, said a police officer.
Members of a organisation gathered and demanded action against the persons nabbed by the police.
The two sides later dispersed as more policemen arrived.
Two cases were registered in the incident, including one in connection with the recovery of animal skin and the other for rioting, against unknown persons, he said.
Four persons were arrested by the police in connection with recovery of the animal skin.
Police and para military personnel were deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident. The situation was totally under control but it is being monitored carefully as a precaution, said the officer.
