While three persons received pellet injuries, another was hit by a tear-smoke shell during the clashes which broke out shortly after police assisted by paramilitary forces launched a cordon and search operation to nab some youths, a police officer said.
He said groups of youth indulged in stone-pelting on search parties, prompting retaliation by law enforcement agencies.
The situation in the area is tense but under control, the officer said, adding reinforcements have been rushed to the area to maintain law and order.
