Depressed over failing in his Class XI exam, a 17-year-old boy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his west Delhi residence here.
The deceased, identified as Vidur, lived with his parents in Vikaspuri and was enrolled as a class 11 student at Ramakrishna Senior Secondary School in the same area. His father is a businessman.
The incident took place yesterday after the family returned home after collecting his results from school.
"Vidur had given compartmental exam in physics paper in which he had failed. After returning home, his father left for work while his mother went to the local market leaving him alone at home. On returning, his parents found him hanging from the ceiling fan of his room," said a police official. They raised an alarm and police were informed about the incident.
Investigators recovered a purported suicide note from the spot in which the deceased said that he took the extreme step because he failed in the exam.
However, his parents alleged that their ward took the extreme step as he was being harassed by the school authorities which "intentionally" failed him.
"We have not found anything in the suicide note which accused the school authorities of foul play. We have also questioned school authorities in this connection, but so far no evidence of their role in abetting the suicide has emerged," the official added.
