'Clean School-Green School' to be applied to 100 UP institutes

The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to implement 'Clean School - Green School' scheme in 100 government intermediate colleges in the state.
The decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.
"The government has decided to implement Clean School - Green School scheme in 100 intermediate colleges in the year 2015-16," an official spokesman said here.
Under the scheme, the students would be made aware of environment and would be motivated towards cleanliness, strengthening of schools.
To provide education through technical medium, arrangement of smart classes would be made, besides furniture.
For selection of schools and implementation of the scheme, a committee headed by secondary education director would be constituted. An expenditure of Rs 50 crore is estimated in the current fiscal.
The Cabinet also decided to change Harcourt Butler Technical Institute at Kanpur into a University in bring qualitative development in technical education.
It decided to impose four per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on packed accessories with cell phones having maximum retail price of upto Rs 10,000.
The Cabinet approved a proposal under which PAC personnel would get VAT-free items from central police canteen, besides implementing conditional settlement scheme for brick manufacturers.
It approved a scheme for funding of 20 blocks of Bundelkhand region by NABARD and construction of four lane road between Jalaun and Orai.
In a bid to attract investment in the state, the Cabinet amended Sugar Industry, Co-generation and Distillery Promotion Scheme 2013 and increase the minimum period of starting production from two years to four years.
