"The results clearly points to the fact that the people of Assam have made up their minds to outst the incumbent Congress government and install development-oriented BJP government," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said here.
He said BJP has sweeped the local bodies election in Assam held on February 9, by winning 21 municipal boards and 24 town committees.
"We thank the people of Assam for their support. This is indeed a clean sweep by BJP in Assam. These results are of prime importance as Assam goes to Assembly poll in 2016," he said.
He said BJP which previously held only 5 seats in the municipal boards but this time had won 21 seats. Of the 42 town committees, BJP had 11 seats previously, this time BJP has won 24 seats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Assam BJP for their commendable performance in the municipal polls held across the state.
