Clear stand on power projects transfer: Tarigami to J-K govt

CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today asked Jammu and Kashmir government to clear its stand on the issue of transfer of power projects from NHPC and said the Union Power Minister's statement that "every demand cannot be translated into a decision", is "very discouraging".
"The government should clear its stand and justify incorporation of the demand in the 'Agenda of Alliance'. The recent statement of the Union Power Minister has been very discouraging," he said.
"It appears to be in total contravention to the Rangarajan Committee recommendations and the commitment made by the present dispensation at the time of power sharing agreement," the Kulgam MLA said.

In its Common Minimum Programme, called 'Agenda of Alliance', with BJP, PDP said the coalition government would work with the Centre to explore modalities for transfer of Dulhasti and Uri hydropower projects to the state.
Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal had yesterday said, "Demand comes from everywhere but a demand does not (necessarily) translate into a decision."
Tarigami alleged that the refusal of transfer of power projects and hike in share of power to the state by Goyal "exposes the insensitiveness and disparity" by the BJP-led Union government towards the state.
"Exploitation of Jammu and Kashmir's water resources by NHPC appears not to be for the benefit of people of the state. Instead of extending assistance for hydroelectric projects, the Centre is showing a callous approach to empower and make J-K resourceful and self reliant," he claimed.
