Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today announced that the closing ceremony of the celebrations in the state to mark the 350th birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh will be held in Sirsa on September 17.
Announcing this at an event here, he said the function held in Karnal on February 12 to mark the birth anniversary of the tenth Sikh Guru was attended by 1.25 lakh people.
"It was for the first time that a programme of such a grand scale has been organised in Haryana in the memory of Guru Gobind Singh. Such functions should be organised on regular basis to acquaint our youth about the sacrifices made by our saints and gurus," Khattar said.
During the event here, the Chief Minister felicitated prominent personalities of the Sikh community who made significant contribution in the successful organisation of the function at Karnal by presenting them Siropas, mementos and citation. On the occasion, Khattar was presented with a sword.
Khattar urged the members of the Sikh community to work actively for the welfare of the people and help the needy and the poor besides organising religious discourses.
"A major part of our society is reeling under poverty and our aim should be to serve the people," the Chief Minister said and exhorted the members of the community to adopt villages so as to ensure their holistic development.
Hailing the contribution of the Sikh community in the field of education, Khattar said besides running their own schools, they should also adopt government schools to improve the teaching environment.
"The Mughals and the British... Had written our history in a distorted manner," he said and laid emphasis on carrying out researches on the history of the country.
