CM must help farmers rather than dedicate award: Cong

Congress leader Amarinder Singh today said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should look into the plight of farmers in Punjab rather than dedicate his Padma Vibhushan to them.
Singh said in a statement issued here, "What consolation will they get by your (Badal) characteristic lip service?"
Industry was moving out and the unemployment was on the rise. Scores of farmers had committed suicide in distress, he said.
"How should it (award) matter to the families of the farmers who have committed suicide in distress that you dedicate your award to them?" he said.
He said that the state's agriculture was faced with the worst crisis while common Punjabi is facing with uncertainty.

After receiving the the second highest civilian honour of the country, Badal yesterday said, I dedicate this award to the farmers who have toiled selflessly to ensure that their countrymen do not sleep hungry, the soldiers and Punjabis living on the border who have braved deadliest odds so that country's defence, unity and integrity are never compromised."
This (award) honour belong to our enterprising youth, our selfless and brave mothers and daughters and millions of other Punjabis who have remained in the forefront of the nation's march towards becoming global partner, he said.
