Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal has approved in principle an innovative training programme, for the state police personnel, in collaboration with a UK-based Nottingham Tent University.
The move comes following a meeting today, between a delegation of Nottingham Trent University, led by Vice Chancellor Edward Peck and Pro-Vice Chancellor Nigel Healey, and Punjab Director General of Police Suresh Arora to explore the possibility of collaboration in training personnel of Punjab Police.
Later, the proposal was discussed by the DGP with CM Parkash Singh Badal, who showed enthusiasm in the Punjab Police's initiative and approved this innovative scheme in principle, said an official release here.
The CM also assured that there would be no financial hurdle in the implementation of such initiatives.
According to the official release, various areas of collaboration were discussed by the officials, including running short duration courses of 4 to 8 weeks for lower and upper subordinate level police officers from constable to inspector with a foreign (UK) component of one to two weeks.
Female police officials would be specially encouraged to participate in such courses in large number, the release said.
It also included developing a pool of trainers who will act like resource persons for further training a large number of police personnel and working out a tripartite agreement between Nottingham Trent University, Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar) and Punjab Police Academy for enriching the police Administration Courses run at Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur.
Another area of collaboration is development of quality training materials for police officials, encouraging and facilitating state police officials, up to the rank of Deputy SP, to take up higher study on police related topics at universally recognised universities worldwide, the release said.
During the discussion, special emphasis was on giving exposure to police officers up to the rank of Deputy SP on best police practices at International level.
This would not only enable the police officers in discharging their duties more effectively and professionally, but also act like a great motivator to them, it said.
