Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has come to the rescue of ally Shiv Sena's Lok Sabha nominee from Hingoli, Hemant Patil, by prevailing on independent candidate Shivaji Jadhav to pull out of the race.
Sources close to the chief minister said that Jadhav, a Supreme Court lawyer, agreed to withdraw from the poll fray.
Jadhav had reportedly approached both the Congress and Sena for ticket from Hingoli, however, the Congress fielded Subhash Wankhede.
Wankhede, then with the Shiv Sena, had lost in 2014 to youth Congress leader Rajiv Satav.
