Power generation at thermal power stations has reduced by 2,700 mw due to shortage of coal, forcing Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam to resort to load shedding in the state, the power utility said today.
Power generation at Suratgarh Thermal Power station has declined from 1500 megawatt to 725 megawatt, at Kota Thermal Power Station from 1240 megawatt to 590 megawatt and at Kalisindh from 1200 megawatt to 1050 megawatt due to shortage of coal, Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam (RUVN) said in a release.
Production at two units of Adani Power having 1200 megawatt capacity each is shut, which has reduced power supply in state by 648 lakh units (2700 mega watt) per day, it further said.
Weather changes have reduced capacity of wind and hydel power stations and power tariff at energy exchange is too high leading to reduced power supply.
The RUVN has to implement load shedding on rotation basis and efforts to normalise the situation of power supply situation are being made.
The situation is likely to improve in one to two weeks after coal supply normalises, the release stated.
