The Indian Coast Guard seized contraband, including items like heroin, ganja and cigarettes worth over Rs 4,000 crore since 2015, the government informed the Rajya Sabha today.
Since April 2015, contraband worth approximately Rs 4,101 crore has been seized by Indian Coast Guard. Among the major items seized were heroin, ganja and cigarettes, Minister of State in the Defence Ministry Subhash Bhamre said in a written response to a question in Parliament.
He said the seized contraband was handed over to respective authorities including the Customs, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) for disposal, as per the procedure.
Bhamre, replying to another question, added that there was no proposal to do away with cantonment boards.
The minister, in a separate question, said the CBI registered corruption cases against 21 Military Engineering Services personnel and two personnel of the Border Road Organisation (BRO).
