College principal removed after students protest

Jammu and Kashmir government today removed the principal of a women's college which has been rocked by a student protests for two days over alleged imposition of "dress code" and "unnecessary diktats" by the management.
The government has also ordered an inquiry into the allegationsof students against the principal of the government college here.
"Pending inquiry into the matter, Anita Sudan Principal government college for women, Parade Jammu is hereby attached with Director College Higher Education department with immediately effect," Additional Secretary, higher education department, Mohmmad Ashraf Hakak said in an order.
Geetanjali Andhotra had been postedas incharge- principal of the college, he said.
The Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rajiv Rajan, said that a probe has been ordered and a senior officer put on thejob.
"We have ordered probe. An officer has been assignedthe task. However, the principal has not been suspended," the DC said.
Earlier, students of the Government Women's College took to the streets for the second day today to press for removal of the principal, who had said that "wild allegations" had been levelled against her.
Sudan had claimed that she had taken several steps likestrict adherence to the college uniform and timing on recommendations of the parents of several students after four women went missing in the recent past, of whom one was tracedin Allahabad.
Joined by students of different colleges including leaders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the protesting students including male members were stopped by the policemen at the main gate of the Deputy Commissioners office today, officials said.
The students staged a sit-in and later met the DC.
