A 20-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide today after she was allegedly beaten up by her father for borrowing money from a relative to repair her laptop, police said.
Sheetal Jadhav apparently jumped off fourth floor of her college after leaving her classroom.
She was a third year student of Pharmacy at a private college in neighbouring Pimpri-Chinchwad.
"As per the primary investigation, we have come to know that Sheetal's laptop had developed some snag and expense to repair the laptop was around Rs 10,000. She borrowed money from her aunt without informing her father," a sub-inspector with Pimpri police station said.
"When her father came to know about it two days ago, he allegedly reprimanded her and thrashed her," according to the officer.
When Sheetal came to the college today, her friends asked her about beating marks on her hands, following which she told them that she was beaten up by her father.
"When her lecture was in progress, she left her classroom. She was later spotted lying in a pool of blood on ground after allegedly jumping off the fourth floor of her college," he said.
Police said that the father of the deceased is a vegetable vendor and it seems that due to their weak financial condition, he might have scolded her and beaten her up for borrowing money from her aunt.
"So far, we have come across this reason, however, we are investigating the case," he added.
