Computer centre owner gets one-year jail term for power theft

A special electricity court recently convicted a computer centre operator in west Delhi to one year jail and Rs 4 lakh penalty for power theft.
A team of power discom BSES had unearthed power theft of 5.7 KW at the computer centre in Vishwas Park, Uttam Nagar, Dwarka. The accused did not pay the fine and instead claimed trial, a BSES spokesperson said.
The Additional Sessions Judge at Special Court of Electricity, Dwarka, observed that the accused could not bring on record any proof showing that power theft was not committed, said the spokesperson.
In another power-theft case, a special electricity court, Karkardooma, convicted a resident of Dilshad Garden in east Delhi for stealing 19 KW of electricity for domestic use.
A bill of Rs 1.86 lakh was raised against the accused which was not paid by him. He had also approached the Supreme Court against the power-theft bill, that directed the trial court to conclude the case, he said.
The special court convicted the accused. It will determine the sentence and penalty later, added the spokesman.
