Congress today demanded arrest of BJP MP Yogi Adityanath for allegedly making objectionable speeches during campaigning for Assembly bypolls in Uttar Pradesh.
"The things being uttered by Gorakhpur MP indicate that he wants to bring in politics of hatred... Adityanath, who is talking about love jihad, and against whom notice has been served by the EC, needs to be arrested," Congress senior leader Rashid Alvi said here.
"If anyone is guilty of love jihad they are the three BJP spokesmen M J Akbar, Shahnawaz Hussain and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Advaniji's niece and Subramanium Swamy's daughter," Alvi said, adding, the beauty of the country is that both Hindu and Muslim live here together.
"Those opposing this togetherness cannot be termed patriots but they are against the country," he said.
When asked about any dissatisfaction in Congress, he said "there is no dissatisfaction in the party and all are united under the unchallenged leadership".
"All partymen will work hard and go amidst the public," he said, adding, the party lost in the elections as it failed to propagate the achievement of the UPA government.
In its show cause notice, EC had reproduced four reported remarks of Adityanath made on Sunday which it said were violative of the model code.
