Candidates of erstwhile UPA partners Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) today filed their nomination papers from Panki Assembly seat where bypoll will be held on May 16.
Devendra Kumar Singh filed nomination papers as Congress candidate while Shashibhusan Mehta submitted his papers on JMM ticket, officials said.
Singh is the son of Bidesh Singh, whose demise has necessitated the bypoll.
The senior Singh, who expired on March 28, had contested the seat as Congress candidate in 2014 Assembly elections.
JMM working president and former chief minister Hemant Soren, who addressed a public meeting here today, appealed to the Congress for a united candidate by withdrawing its candidate from the contest.
The Congress has left the Godda seat to RJD, whose candidate Sanjay Yadav filed nominations on Monday.
The JMM has fielded former Odisha police chief Sanjeev Marik from Godda.
