Holding the "short-sighted political approach" of Congress responsible for the present stalemate on Telangana, BJP today charged the ruling party lacks the conviction to create the new state and is working purely for electoral gains.
Underscoring BJP's support to formation of Telangana, BJP President Rajnath Singh said Congress has wasted nine years and yet failed to carve out the new state from Andhra Pradesh.
"From day one, they have adopted short-sighted political approach towards this emotive, sensitive and serious issue. Congress has treated this issue as its internal matter," Singh said in a statement.
The BJP leader alleged government has not involved all stake-holders to evolve a broad agreement.
"Congress is responsible for the present chaos in the state. There is neither clarity nor unity in Congress party on the issue of Telangana," Singh said.
BJP has demanded government bring a Bill on formation of Telangana in the on-going winter session of Parliament and it will support the move.
Pointing to the chasm in Congress on the issue, he said while the Prime Minister and the union cabinet cleared the Telangana Bill, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and union ministers from Seemandhra region are opposing it.
Moreover, they are instigating the people and leading agitations against creation of Telangana, BJP charged.
"Being the ruling party, it is highly irresponsible on the part of Congress as it is indulging in double-speak. The union government proposes Telangana but the state Congress openly opposes formation of Telangana state," he said.
He alleged the Congress-led governments are more concerned and motivated by their electoral considerations and lack the conviction needed to create a new state.
