Cong lowering morale of armed forces: BJP

The BJP today accused the Congress of making statements aimed at "insulting" the armed forces and lowering their morale.

BJP spokesperson G V L Narasimha Rao hit back at the opposition party after it alleged that the Narendra Modi government had compromised national security and the lives of the security personnel by not providing adequate resources and state-of-the-art equipment to the armed forces.

"The Congress has been continuously making statements lowering the morale of the armed forces by resorting to lies. It has been insulting the Army and its chief with its wild allegations," Rao said in a statement.

The Rajya Sabha member added that Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had recently questioned the integrity of the armed forces with his reported statement that they had killed more civilians than terrorists in Kashmir.

Rao claimed that the budgetary allocation for the defence sector was the highest ever under the BJP-led NDA government and added that it was gradually increased in the last four budgets.

"Yet the Congress spreads lies to create confusion and lower the morale of the armed forces," the BJP leader said.
