A Congress MP from Tamil Nadu today lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner seeking action against those who put up a flex board hailing the victory of a candidate in Kancheepuram parliamentary constituency with a substantial margin ahead of counting.
In his complaint to Chief Election Commissioner V Sampath, Kancheepuram MP P Viswanathan said banners have been placed in Kancheepuram city depicting the victory of AIADMK candidate by a margin of 1,68,099 votes.
"I was surprised how they are declaring the number of votes polled even before the counting took place. Whether any inside information has been parted?," Vishwanathan said.
He also alleged there were gross violations in furnishing percentage of polling in his constituency.
Citing a newspaper report, he said 65 per cent of polling was recorded on the polling day on April 24.
"But the District Collector, who is the Returning Officer, gave two different statistics on the next day (25-04-2014). The first one was 75.71 per cent at 11.00 am during the scrutiny and the second figure was given as 75.91 per cent at 5.00 pm."
He demanded suitable action against the Returning Officer on the grounds of inability to give correct figure to the public.
