Congress workers today staged protests outside the offices of collectors across different districts headquarters in Gujarat against demonetisation.
They also handed over memorandum detailing their grievances.
Party members were also detained by police in different districts for demonstrations.
In Ahmedabad, protesting opposition party members burnt effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also allegedly vandalised hoardings when they were not allowed to meet the collector but were not detained, police said.
Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki termed demonetisation as an "anarchist decision".
"Demonetisation will cause negative impact on India's economy and GDP might fall upto 2 per cent. Job market has got impacted by this decision and more than 2 crore employees may have to lose their job," claimed Solanki.
All India Congress Committee co-ordinator and Rajya Sabha MP Narendra Budania also condemned the decision to demonetise high value currency notes.
"Demonstration against demonetisation will be held in each and every district of Gujarat. Gujarat Congress is giving tough fight to BJP which is commendable," he said.
"Demonetisation drive is nothing but a scheme of Modi government to get convert black money into white," he alleged.
