The Opposition Congress in Assam will launch a mass-contact campaign in the state against the alleged failures of the BJP-led Narendra Modi government, party leader Harish Rawat said today.

"We have our strategy worked out to launch a massive mass campaign to expose before the people how the BJP-led NDA government has failed to keep its poll promises," said Rawat, the AICC general secretary.

He was talking to reporters here after his appointment as Congress in-charge of Assam.

The former Uttarakhand chief minister said Congress will be strengthened from the grassroots level with the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) deciding that each leader will hold booth committee meetings once in two weeks to discuss the issues of the area with people.

"We believe that the turnaround in 2019 will be through the booth committees," Rawat asserted.

He said each Congress worker will maintain contact with 100 voters and should be available for any kind of assistance.

Every party leader has to submit a monthly report on the progress of entrusted assignments for evaluation, he said.

Asked if the Congress would have an alliance with like-minded political parties at the state level, Rawat said, "Let the time come, we will decide then".

"Congress is always ready to welcome like-minded individuals, even those who had left the party earlier, into its fold," he said.

During a review meeting on the state party affairs yesterday, Rawat had said that two issues were identified in Assam assess organisational strength and the ways to augment it, and the need for a proper socio-economic-political strategy.
