Cong will do well in municipal polls in Tgana;state Cong prez

Alleging that the TRS government in Telangana has not fulfilled its election promises,including giving financial assistance to unemployed youth and farm loan waivers, the state Congress said the party does not have the right to seek votes in the coming municipal elections.

"The TRS government has been an utter flop. Have they given loan waivers? Have they given Rs 3,016 unemployment assistance? They have not done anything?... How can TRS seek votes in municipalities? state Congress president and MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said, addressing a party meeting in Suryapet district.

Reddy asserted that Congress would regain its past glory.

In an apparent reference to the issue of Rahul Gandhis resignation as AICC president, he said recent political developments at the national and state level might give an impression that the party has weakened and BJP was marching ahead, but that was not true.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy, chairman of the state party units Election Commission Coordination Committee, alleged that the process of delimitation and reservation undertaken by the state for municipal election has been faulty.

He demanded that both be done again afresh.

Congress suffered a massive setback in the Assembly elections held in December last year (winning only 19 of the total 119 seats), but salvaged its prestige after its managed to secure three Lok Sabha seats.

BJP, on the other hand, continued its aggressive pitch Saturday to strengthen itself in the state.

State unit chief K Laxman, senior leader and former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya took part in the membership at separate places in the state.

Though it suffered a humiliating defeat in the assembly polls (winning only one of the total 119 seats), BJP made impressive gains in Lok Sabha polls.

It bagged four seats in the LS elections.

Claiming that people of the state are looking for a change from the family rule of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Laxman told reporters that his party would stand by the people in the process.

Dattatreya claimed that many prominent leaders from Congress and also TRS are positively thinking about BJP.

BJP spokesperson N V Subhash said the TRS government planned to hold two-day assembly session next week on to discuss new municipal act.

But when would peoples problems be discussed, he asked.

State minister T Srinivas Yadav said the BJP "talked big" though it had won just four seats in Lok Sabha elections.
