"These parties are engaged in a political endeavour to trigger anti-government sentiments in the state over the suffering of a mother who lost a son," the CPI(M) state secretariat said here today.
The CPI-M said it would do everything possible to ensure justice to the family of Jishu Pranoy, the first year student of Nehru College of Engineering, who was found hanging in the college hostel in Thrissur district in January this year.
One of the accused arrested the other day was the son of a former Congress minister, it said.
It accused the Congress of adopting double standards of triggering passions on one hand and protecting the accused on the other.
Jishnu's family members, including his mother Mahija were prevented by the police from undertaking a fast in front of the DGP's office on April 5.
Opposition leader in the assembly Ramesh Chennithala, meanwhile flayed CPI(M) and demanded that the government explain if it was its policy to drag Jishnu's mother on the road.
Meanwhile, BJP State President Kummanom Rajasekharan said only 'criminals' in the CPI(M) justified the police action against Jishnu's mother.
Rajasekharan said the chief minister should be ready to meet the mother, "shedding his false pride."
He demanded that Vijayan relinquish the Home portfolio as "he has proved to be a failure."
Mahija, meanwhile, continued her protest at the medical college hospital here, demanding the arrest of all those involved in abetting her son's suicide.
The hospital sources said she would be discharged only after she recovers and rejected reports that there was pressure on them to do so at the earliest.
