Congressional panel to examine US-Pak cooperation on terror

A powerful Congressional committee will examine US-Pakistan counterterrorism cooperation and the effectiveness of American aid in the wake of San Bernardino terrorist attack by a Pakistani-origin couple earlier this month.
"I have long been concerned about Pakistan's failure to take meaningful action against key Islamist terrorist groups operating within its territory," Congressman Ed Royce, Chairman of the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee said.
"The horrific attack in San Bernardino and Tafsheen Malik's education at a Pakistani madrassa underscore the need for a new approach to confront this terrorist threat.
"Wednesday's hearing will give the Committee a chance to examine US-Pakistan counterterrorism cooperation, the effectiveness of US aid and the concerning rise of schools in Pakistan teaching students hardline jihadist ideology," Royce said yesterday.

A hearing titled 'The Future of US-Pakistan Relations' has been scheduled for tomorrow.
Richard Olson, the new Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, has been asked to testify before the committee.
Pakistani-American Farook and his Pakistani wife Tashfeen Malik killed 14 people and wounded 21 others during a party in San Bernardino, California on December 2.
