Anil Kumar was suspended for talking over the phone during his shift due to which murder accused Sonu, brought to the trial court escaped yesterday, Salman Taj Patil, SP (City) said.
The incident happened when Sonu, a resident of Baraut town of Baghpat district, was shifted from the court room to the main lockup in the court compound to meet his family.
Kumar started talking over his phone during the transit period and taking advantage of this, Sonu escaped hoodwinking the constable, Patil said, adding, Kumar was arrested yesterday.
A search operation was launched in the court premises to nab the absconding inmate and raids are being conducted at probable hideouts in Loni, Baghpat and Delhi to nab Sonu.
Kumar was produced before the court from where he has been sent to jail today under sections 222, 223 and 224 IPC.
