Superintendent of police Akhilesh Kumar Singh yesterday suspended Kiran Shreerame, the constable.
Shreerame allegedly took Sameer Joshi, arrested in a cheating case, out of the custody, and the two went to a new year party at a local restaurant.
The duo returned to the city police station station at 2 am on new year day.
After an inquiry, the SP issued suspension order, police sources said.
Joshi, director of Suriya Investment, is accused of cheating investors here of Rs 87 lakh.
