Chinese Consul General to Kolkata, Zha Liyou has said his country wants to build cultural bridge between Chinese provinces and eastern India.

China wants to build a "very fundamental bridge" linking the five eastern Indian states, including West Bengal, and Chinese provinces like Yunnan to facilitate people to people contact between the two countries, Liyou told PTI on the sidelines of a cultural programme by Chinese folk artists here on Monday night.

"We want artists from West Bengal and other Indian states under the jurisdiction of the Consulate perform in China. I welcome Indian folk artists to come to China and also we would wish to bring more Chinese artists to come to India," the diplomat said.

He said so far the consulate had very "successful experiences" in terms of feedback about such exchanges and "we are working on that (front)."
Asked if promoting the screening of films of each country could also be another thrust area, Liyou, who had taken over charge as the new Consul few days back, said "film is one of the industries we can really work very hard, we have to work on it. I can see there will be more cooperation project. We welcome that."
Informing that Aamir Khan is a big name in China and his film 'Dangal' a hit in Chinese theatres, Liyou said, "We hope we can have more names of Indian films and stars in China."
