Consumer forum told to pursue appointment of Chief with HC

The Madras High Court today directed the Registrar of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission to pursue with the court the matter regarding the appointment of its President, a post lying vacant for nearly a year, as the Chief Justice is seized of the matter.
A division bench, comprising Justices Huluvadi G Ramesh and M V Muralidaran, passed the order on a petition by Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG) represented by its Director S Saroja.
The bench said the Government Pleader brought to its notice a letter addressed to him on March 18 by the Registrar of the Commission in which it had been informed that the Chief Justice of the High Court had been moved for appointment of President of the forum and the matter was pending with the CJ.

Recording the submission of the Government Pleader, it said that "it would be suffice to direct the Registrar, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, to pursue the matter with the Hon'ble High Court for early appointment of the President."
The petitioner submitted that after Justice R Regupathy demitted office, the post of the President has been vacant for nearly a year.
