Couple killed in mishap in Coimbatore

An elderly couple was killed on the spot, when a van hit their two-wheeler, near Periyanaickenpalayam on the outskirts today, police said.
The incident occurred when Dasappan (65) and his wife Mani (60), both residents of Samichettipalyam, were approaching Veerapandi curve, and the tempo van coming in the opposite direction rammed into their moped, they said.
Under the impact of the collision, both were thrown off the vehicle, resulting in their death.
A search is on for the van driver, who fled the scene after the mishap, police added.
