Union HRD minister Smriti Irani today urged the Vice Chancellors of all the Gujarat-based universities to design courses to help the potential boom in the manufacturing sector with the launch of Make in India campaign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday launched the ambitious Make in India project to make the country a manufacturing hub.
Irani was in Gandhinagar today to take part in a meeting with all the VCs in the presence of Gujarat Governor OP Kohli.
"We held discussions on how to prepare our students for the next 10 to 20 years, keeping in mind the 'Make In India' campaign launched by our PM yesterday. We discussed on designing our curriculam as per that campaign and include various subjects of science and technology to prepare our students for future challenges," she told reporters.
Irani added that students and their parents, who work hard for better education, are the biggest stakeholders for the HRD Ministry.
"Thus, our main aim is to ensure that the education helps in building a better society and nation. In today's meeting, I shared details of some initiatives taken by us at central level about teachers training and scholarship," she said.
The minister was accompanied by state Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and Minister of State (MoS) Vasu Trivedi.
Chudasama expressed concern over the low enrolment of girl students in technical courses during the meet. He also called for an urgent need to improve the quality of education.
"When we are running women empowerment drive, we have to find out where they stand in education. We need to improve the quality of education in universities to face global competition," said an official release quoting Chudasama.
