A Delhi court today recorded the statement of a 13-year-old girl, who was rescued from a south Delhi locality here after she claimed to have been locked inside the house by her airhostess employer who is now in Australia.
Metropolitan Magistrate Jay Thereja recorded the minor's statement after the police had moved an application seeking the court's permission to record the alleged victim's statement by a magistrate under section 164 CrPC.
The girl's statement recorded under Section 164 of CrPC before the magistrate in his chamber would be considered as a confession made during the probe and would be used by the prosecution to support its case in the trial.
The statement recorded by a magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC binds the accused/witness against taking any U-turn by her/him during trial and any such act makes her/him liable to be prosecuted on the charge of perjury.
The documents and the file containing the girl's statement recorded during an hour-long in-chamber proceeding was later kept in a sealed envelope.
Source in the Delhi police had said the victim managed to reach the terrace of the Sarojini Nagar apartment in south Delhi by slipping out using a ventilator and sought the help from neighbours. The police roped in an NGO for the rescue.
According to police, the girl, after the rescue on Monday, was produced before the Child Welfare Committee where she had said that she was beaten up several times with a belt, starved and locked inside the house.
Neither she nor her family had been paid for the work. The girl and her employer, who works for Air India, are from Manipur, the police added.
The accused has been booked under sections relating to causing hurt, wrongful confinement, child labour and bonded labour, said the official.
