"This shows the very attitude of the TMC government to the basic issue of corruption," Congress leader and WBPCC President Adhir Ranjan Choudhury told a public meeting at Durgachawk, near Haldia, in East Midnapore district.
He was seconded by CPI(M) leader Rabin Dev, who had contested unsuccessfully from the Singur assembly seat in the last polls.
Choudhury alleged alliance partner CPI(M)'s local party offices had been "burnt down" in the past couple of days ever since TMC lost Haldia seat.
Choudhury said police were acting as the stooge of TMC and the ruling party was throttling democracy.
