In the wake of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent remarks that conversions will continue to take place in the country, CPI(M) today demanded ban on re-conversions based on "false" assurances and inducements and sought action against those disrupting the communal harmony.
The party's Polit Bureau which met today said that despite repeated demands in the Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has refused to spell out the stand of the government on reconversion issue.
"The CPI(M) demands that such re-conversions based on false assurances and inducements and with state patronage be prohibited with immediate effect.
"Action should be taken under the relevant provisions of the law against those who are organizing such activities which are disruptive of communal harmony and creating communal tensions," the party said in a statement.
The RSS chief had recently said that 'Ghar Vapsi' or conversions will take place as all the Muslims and Christians in India were converted from Hinduism, creating a controversy.
The party said that after the Narendra Modi government came to power, the Hindutva agenda is being implemented in various spheres in which one is the re-conversion drive aimed at bringing Muslims and Christians 'back' to the Hindu fold.
The party said that the communal aim of this so-called 'ghar vapsi' has been spelt out by Bhagwat himself and plans for such reconversion events have been announced for Christmas day as well.
Citing the example of Uttar Pradesh government which has registered cases and taken action against the organisers of the Agra "reconversion", the party said that similar action must be taken by other state governments as well.
Noting the involvement of Trinamool Congress leadership and ministers in the Saradha chit fund scandal, the Polit Bureau also condemned the efforts of the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) and her Ministry to "scuttle" the investigation.
"All the evidence points to the involvement of the highest level in the state government in West Bengal which should lead to the interrogation of the Chief Minister (Mamata Banerjee) herself by the CBI," the party said.
