CPI(M) took out five padayatras across the city today protesting against alleged "deteriorating law and order and anarchy" in West Bengal.
Left leaders claimed that the padayatras, which come ahead of its December 27 rally at the Brigade Parade ground here, evoked good response.
CPI(M) state secretray Surya Kanta Mishra said the party has undertaken a "massive" agitation to consolidate its strength ahead of its Plenum from December 27 to December 31.
"For highlighting the burning issues of the state, we are organising a rally on December 27 with a call for 'Trinamool Hatao Bangla Bachao, BJP Hatao Desh Bachao'," he said.
State party chairman Biman Bose said the state government was not listening to the problems of the common man and instead promoting "hooliganism" in the name of development.
The December 27 rally in the city would mark the beginning of CPI(M) Plenum which would continue till December 31.
