CPI(M) state secretariat rejects Achuthanandan's criticism

Mincing no words, CPI(M) in Kerala today rejected the criticism levelled by sulking veteran V S Achuthanandan against the leadership and reminded the nonagenarian leader to mend his ways and fall in line with party decisions.
The party secretariat meeting passed a four-page resolution detailing the "indiscipline and anti-party" approach adopted by 92-year-old Achuthanandan since 2011 which had embarrassed the party and said it wanted the senior leader to comply with the party state committee's united decisions.
"This is not a warning or any disciplinary action against Achuthanandan, who is the LDF opposition leader in the state Assembly," CPI-M state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters after the secretariat meeting here.

"The resolution is to remind him to accept party line by correcting himself," he said.
"Party hopes that Achuthanandan will accept the party stand," Balakrishnan said.
However, he said as an opposition leader, Achuthanandan would contine to lead LDF's fight against Congress-led UDF in the Assembly whose session is scheduled to begin from June 8.

The resolution passed at the meet also wanted to know whether he intended to lead a parallel party and it also accused the senior leader of coming out with statements against the party leadership whenever UDF in the state was in crisis with a view to divert attention from the Congress-led Front.

"This time also when UDF was in deep trouble with corruption allegations and disunity among its front constituents, Achuthanandan has made statements against the party," the resolution said.
"It has become the habit of Achuthanandan to portray the party in bad light in public by baseless complaints," the resolution added.
Achuthanandan, who has been not on good terms with the CPI(M) leadership for the past few years, had shocked the party recently with a public statement that the setback to the party in Lok Sabha polls in 2009 and 2014 was due to shortcomings of the party leadership under former state secretary and his bete noire Pinarayi Vijayan and former party general secretary Prakash Karat.
