Embarrassed by the war of words between some district level leaders of ruling LDF partners CPI(M) and CPI over certain issues in Ernakulam, the Marxist party, heading the front, today said the need of the hour was more unity.
"There is opportunity for both parties to express their views directly if there are any differences. There is no need to say that in public," CPI-M state Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said in a Facebook post.
His statement comes a day after CPI mouthpiece 'Janayugam' attacked CPI-M MLA M Swaraj from Thripunithra in Ernakulam district.
Swaraj had criticised the CPI, the second largest partner of the LDF, over the acceptance of ousted CPI-M workers into its fold in Ernakulam district.
Balakrishnan said opportunistic attitude was not good for the growth of Left and that was evident after the split of the Communist Party in 1964. CPI came forward for broad unity after they realised their support to Emergency was not correct.
"Now both CPI-M and CPI are functioning more unitedly," he said.
The LDF victory in the recent state assembly polls was the result of that unity, he said, adding the present situation warranted more unity among the parties.
Attempts by certain quarters to create an impression that disunity between the two Communist parties was intensifying would not succeed, he said.
There was no differences between the two parties at the state and the national levels. Just based on certain regional issues, vested interest were attempting to portray that there was disunity among the two parties.
"CPI-M is not ready to yield to that strategy. We will work with more unity," he added.
