Buoyed by the success of two consecutive campaigns, the CPI(M) leadership has decided to intensify protests against the state government and reach out to the masses on various issues.
The party has decided to contest the upcoming October 3 municipal polls with full strength, which was taken on the first day of the two-day CPI(M) state committee meeting.
"The Nabanna March on August 27 was a big success and its impact was felt across the state. We also received a huge response from the people on the September 2 all-India general strike.
"This was repeated in the two-day sit-in demonstration in front of the CESC headquarters followed by the Raj Bhawan March organised by the students and youth wings of Left parties to highlight the primary TET scam," the party said in a statement.
Addressing the state committee meeting, CPI(M) state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said, "The spontaneous response from the people has given our protest movements a new direction. We now have to intensify our protest against the state government and prepare ourselves to organise bigger movements."
It was decided that the party would use its full strength to contest the October 3 civic polls and pose a tough challenge to the ruling party.
"We have to unite the people to ensure a fair and peaceful election. They have to come forward and thwart the attempts of the ruling party of intimidating the voters," the statement added.
