CR, WR get over 300 suggestions to curb accidental deaths

Within 15 days, the Central Railway (CR) and the Western Railway (WR) have together received over 300 online suggestions from commuters on ways to curb the ever increasing deaths on suburban local trains.
While the CR has received 165 suggestions, WR received 150 suggestions from commuters. These suggestions would be put forth before the committees formed in both CR and WR to ascertain cause of accidental deaths, said a senior railway official today.
Suggestions were invited from December 7 to 21 and the committees would submit their report by December 31, he said.
"These suggestions are going to be a vital part of the recommendations that will be put forth by the committees set up by the Railway ministry", he added.

"Most of these suggestions were received by email while a few came through (social media) Twitter handles and Facebook pages", said CR Chief PRO Narendra Patil.
He further said that the CR committee has had three meetings so far, and another meeting is likely to be held to give a final touch to the report that would also incorporate commuter's suggestions.

The committees was formed by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu following the death of 28-year-old Dombilivi resident Bhavesh Nakhate while he was commuting on a CR suburban local on November 28 in neighbouring Thane district.
The CR and WR had invited online suggestions from the commuters a week after the first meeting of the committees to look into the causes of deaths occurring under the wheels of trains on Mumbai suburban railway system.

During the first meeting of the committees, members including Members of Parliament, discussed various issues on accidental deaths at length, but also wanted larger participation of commuters and had asked senior railway officials to invite their suggestions.
"Hence, it was decided to incorporate the suggestions of passengers to resolve issues of suburban commuters," Patil added.
