A crocodile has been sighted in the Shanmuganathi river at Palani sending authorities into a tizzy.
Officials barred pilgrims from taking bath in the river after the six-foot long reptile was sighted on Wednesday and efforts to capture it yesterday and today failed, authorities said.
A warning board also has been put up, officials said.
Forest officials from Amaravathi dam have been informed about the reptile, they said, adding, it could have escaped from there.
Officials said they would keep watch and "capture it soon".
