B Hanumantu fatally shot himself with a gun belonging to a colleague at the CRPF camp at Tadgaon in Bhamragad taluka at around 8.30 am, according to a press release issued by the office of Gadchiroli superintendent of police.
The 45-year-old fired three bullets on his chest and died on the spot, the release said.
Hanumantu, a native of Krishnapuram village in Andhra Pradesh, was posted with the ninth battallion of the CRPF for the last one year, it said.
According to preliminary investigation, he took the extreme step due to personal reasons, the police said, adding a probe was on in the matter.
