Braving sub-zero temperature, a joint contingent of CRPF and Srinagar Municipal Corporation today launched a special drive aimed at cleaning all religious and historical places in the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Clean Srinagar Drive was kick-started this morning from the historic Shankaracharya temple overlooking the famous Dal Lake here.
Inspector General of CRPF (Srinagar Sector) Atul Karwal inaugurated the drive in presence of Joint Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Syed Abdul Qasim.
"CRPF is determined to bring about exemplary cleanliness to all tourist places which possess high religious and historical significance," Karwal said, adding, "We will put best of our efforts to associate school children and college students with the campaign."
Lauding the initiative, Qasim said, "It is a commendable act of social responsibility demonstrated by the force to generate awareness about cleanliness in the city.
"Srinagar is already clean to a large extent, but the concept of associating masses with the drive will definitely generate awareness, particularly among the youth, for maintaining cleanliness in such places where lakhs of tourists arrive every year," he said.
A CRPF spokesman said the force is wholeheartedly committed to extend its firm support to make Srinagar the most favourable tourist destination in terms of cleanliness.
